How to Configure Kwik-File's ARC™ Rotary System Space Planning Guide

The ARC Rotary File is a double faced unit that rotates easily to provide access to both sides. Using our flexible cantilever style shelving, the ARC provides the most unobstructed filing inches per level and the easiest installations possible. The complete starter includes everything needed to house a filing system including the specified number of shelves and dividers. The ARC Adder is the same as the Starter except the end panels are not included.

Empty units can be configured in endless variations for mixed media storage solutions.

End Panel

End panels are 20ga. CRS. Two end panels required per each starter.

Vertical Supports

Formed of 14 ga. CRS, the vertical supports provide a stable foundation for the ARC unit. Two left hand vertical and two right hand vertical supports are used in both starter and adder unit. The right hand vertical supports have a keyed lock option to secure the entire unit. The lock can be installed on either side of the cabinet.

Doors/Uprights

Welded assemblies consisting of a formed 18 ga. door with top and bottom flange. An 18ga. upright with shelf mounting slots located 1.5" on vertical center is spot-welded to the inside of the door. All welds are to be clean and unnoticeable on the outer side of the door. Two door assemblies are required for each starter and adder and are joined via one 20ga. divider support and one 14ga. cross brace.

Base Assembly

Welded assembly consisting of 14ga. material for letter base, using a 3" tubing for reinforcements on the bottom side. The legal base is made out of 11ga. material using a 3" tubing for reinforcements on the bottom side. A precision machined steel (material is sintered bronze, oil impregnated, self-lubricating) base collar is dropped into the center of the base structure. There are four weld nuts welded into each corner, which allows for the levelers to be screwed up or down for adjust ability. The complete assembly provides rigid support for the bottom swivel base weldment. This stepped, triple-layered structural weldment of 11ga., 14ga. and 16ga. rotates on a 0.997" steel bearing shaft and contains a permanently lubricated roller bearing plate 18" in diameter housing 18 precision steel balls 5/8" diameter each. (Legal size bearing plate is 24" diameter with 24 steel balls.) Door / upright assemblies are shipped completely assembled. S spring loaded plunger located detent points every 90 degrees of rotation of the swivel base. There are no foot pedals or any other protrusions from the base of the system.

Rotating Top Assembly

Formed of 16ga. CRS with holes punched in its center through which to attach the 0.997" steel bearing shaft assembly. Door / upright assemblies are bolted to the top pan assembly and the rotating axis is maintained by the top panel bearing shaft.

Top Pan

Formed 18ga. CRS with a 1.258" diameter hole punched in the center to accept a precision machined steel (material is sintered bronze, oil impregnated, self-lubricating) collar.

Standard Shelves

Shall be formed from 18ga. for letter and legal shelves CRS. Shelves shall be available in 24" and 30" in 12" and 15" depths. Shelves shall be independently adjustable on either side of the unit. Shelf fronts shall be flanged upward _". Shelf back shall be flanged upward at right angles to form 4" high back shelf running entire shelf width. Shelf backs shall have 90-degree backward _" flange at top for added strength. Top of shelf back and body shall be slotted to accept vertical adjustable dividers on 1-1/2" centers across shelf width. Shelf sides shall be flanged downward at right angles notched to securely engage and interlock with embossed pocket lances of shelf end support brackets without the use of screws, nuts, or bolts. Shelves shall be adjustable on 1-1/2" vertical centers. Shelf deflection tested with full media load, in not to exceed 3/32". Maximum capacity per shelf is 120lbs. Holes on exposed faces of shelves will not be acceptable.

Shelf End Brackets

Shall be 14ga. CRS and shall be 5-1/2" high, tapered toward front. Each shelf end bracket shall have two embossed pocket lances to engage and interlock shelf sides.
The two hooks and one stabilizer tab of the shelf end support brackets interlock with slotted uprights.

Shelf Dividers

Shall be 18ga. CRS and project 6" above shelf body. They shall have two tabs to engage with the two parallel rows of slots on shelf body and are notched to interlock with top of shelf back. All dividers shall be adjustable on 1-1/2" centers across shelf width.

Assembly

All units are shipped knocked down and assembled with mechanical fasteners, which will facilitate disassembly. Rivets do not meet the criteria.

Finish

All formed steel parts shall be prepared for painting by a muti-stage cleaning & phosphating process providing a bonding and rust-resistant undercoat. All parts shall be finished with one or more coats of industrial quality baking enamel of a medium gloss, applied electrostatically and capable of with standing hammer and bending tests without flaking or cracking. Surfaces difficult to cover electrostatically shall be had sprayed prior to entering baking ovens.

All rotating cabinet assemblies, shelving and shelving accessories shall be painted a matching color as selected by the customer from a range of available standard colors. Custom colors shall be available and matched to painted samples via a computerized color spectrometer a minimum purchase quantity applies.
